ASSESSMENT

What is a CLBPT?

The Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT) is the assessment tool we use at LCC. It is task-based, looks at the four primary language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking), and assigns Canadian Language Benchmarks levels 1 – 8 for each skill.

What can the CLBPT be used for?

This test can be used to register in

  • federally or provincially funded language and job training programs that require a CLB score for entry.
  • Health Career Access program. For more details, please click here.
  • LCC does not provide tests for entry into LINC programs – candidates should contact a LINC program for details, and receive a test at a LINC test centre.

The CLBPT is NOT accepted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada as proof of language ability for immigration (see the CIC website for language tests you can use for citizenship applications).

The CLBPT has never been validated for English native speakers and cannot be used with this group.

**It is the test-taker’s responsibility to confirm whether the CLBPT assessment result is accepted by the program to which they wish to apply.

Getting Tested at LCC

Your CLB scores will show your ability to use English in everyday tasks. “Last minute” studying will not improve your results!

If you have already taken a CLB Placement test or LINC Placement test, please wait at least 3 months before scheduling another assessment.
