Build TESOL teaching skills and leadership confidence in 12 weeks

The TESOL and Leadership Certificate at LCC — ISS Language & Career College of BC is a focused 12-week program designed for learners who want to build practical English language teaching skills while also developing communication, decision-making, teamwork, and leadership confidence.

This combined delivery certificate brings together two valuable areas of professional development: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Leadership Preparation. Students learn how to plan and deliver ESL lessons, support English language learners, understand language acquisition, manage classroom activities, and strengthen their ability to communicate and lead in educational or team-based environments.

Whether you are exploring English language teaching, tutoring, classroom support, adult education, or leadership development, this program offers practical training in a compact format.

This program is designed for learners who want focused, practical training without committing to a long program. Students build instructional, communication, and leadership skills that may support career development in language teaching, tutoring, education support, and team-based professional environments.

Why choose this program?

A short, practical certificate with teaching and leadership value

The TESOL and Leadership Certificate is designed for students who want to develop both classroom-ready teaching skills and broader professional confidence.

Many education and training environments value people who can do more than deliver content. Effective instructors and facilitators also need to communicate clearly, plan lessons, support diverse learners, manage classroom dynamics, make thoughtful decisions, and work well with teams.

This program helps students build skills in:
  • TESOL lesson planning
  • Teaching grammar, pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Communicative teaching methods
  • Student-centred classroom techniques
  • Micro-teaching and class observation
  • Leadership styles and personal leadership goals
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Team collaboration and communication
  • Change management and motivation
  • Mentoring, training, and supporting others

The result is a practical certificate that connects teaching ability with professional maturity.

Who should apply?

This program is suitable for a wide range of learners in British Columbia, including those who want to explore teaching, tutoring, education support, or leadership development.

You may be a strong fit if you are:

  • Interested in becoming an ESL instructor, TESOL instructor, tutor, or language learning facilitator
  • A newcomer or internationally trained professional interested in education-related work
  • A current or future teacher who wants practical TESOL training
  • A working professional who wants stronger communication and leadership skills
  • Someone interested in supporting English language learners

  • A career changer exploring language education or training roles
  • A learner looking for a short, focused certificate with practical outcomes
  • A BC resident exploring funding or loan options for career training

This program may support career development, but it does not guarantee employment, promotion, wage increases, or specific job outcomes.

Program overview

The TESOL and Leadership Certificate brings together two complementary areas of study to prepare students as effective English language educators and emerging leaders.

The TESOL component helps students understand how languages are acquired, how to assess English proficiency, and how to design engaging lessons that develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

The Leadership component helps students build decision-making, organization, communication, goal-setting, teamwork, motivation, and leadership capability. These skills can strengthen a student’s effectiveness in both classroom and workplace environments.

By the end of the program, students will have developed a stronger foundation in lesson planning, classroom communication, learner support, leadership awareness, and professional collaboration.

Funding and payment options

Funding options may be available

LCC students may be able to explore different funding or loan options depending on their personal eligibility, immigration status, residency, financial circumstances, and program approval status.

Because this program is intended for a broad audience across British Columbia, funding information should be presented clearly and carefully. Not every student will qualify for the same type of support.

Global Talent Loans

Students who are not eligible for StudentAid BC may still want to ask about other possible support options, including Global Talent Loans where applicable.

Global Talent Loans may be relevant for eligible internationally trained newcomers in British Columbia who are permanent residents, naturalized Canadian citizens, or granted refugees and who have foreign credentials. This option may help eligible participants with training or career advancement costs, subject to program requirements.

Important note: Global Talent Loans approval is not guaranteed. Eligibility requirements apply, and students should confirm directly with the appropriate program team before making financial decisions.
