Recent news reports suggest that the Government of Canada is considering reinstating its visa requirement on Mexico, as a response to the growing number of asylum claims from Mexican nationals and mounting pressure from the U.S.
Languages Canada believes the move is inevitable and expects an official announcement in the coming weeks.
Languages Canada recommends that students who have a valid Mexican passport and are considering coming to Canada for studies of six months or less should apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA) as soon as possible before the visa exemption comes into effect.
While there is no guarantee at this point, we believe it is unlikely that the government will cancel existing eTAs. Applying for an eTA costs only CAD 7 and usually takes 24 hours.
