What is BC Day?
BC Day is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in August in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It was established to recognize the creation and cultural heritage of British Columbia, and it gives residents a chance to appreciate the province’s rich history, diverse communities, and stunning natural landscapes.
Why is it Celebrated?
While BC Day doesn’t commemorate a specific historical event, it serves as a day to:
-
Celebrate the founding and development of British Columbia
-
Acknowledge the contributions of Indigenous peoples and diverse communities
-
Encourage civic pride and community events
It also gives people a well-deserved summer long weekend to relax, explore local attractions, or spend time with loved ones.
Please note that our school will be closed on Monday, August 5th in observance of BC Day.
We hope you enjoy the long weekend with family and friends, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, August 6th.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday!
